Sir, – Regarding the closure of the public restaurant at the Four Courts, the decision will have a negative effect on members of the public exercising their constitutional right of access to justice. The Four Courts houses 34 court rooms, all of which run full lists every day of the week. For the most part, those visiting the Four Courts are doing so in a nervous and anxious state. Many have never set foot in a courthouse before and are at their most vulnerable, such as those involved in repossession proceedings of their family homes.
This proposal would be similar to the closure of the public restaurant in a hospital facility. There are no waiting rooms in the Four Courts, no vending machines, no drinking water.
The administration of justice should take account of those seeking justice and their basic needs. – Yours, etc,
