Sir, - As most people know, the current exchange rate for Irish pounds as against sterling is currently in Ireland's favour: but not if you attempt to change your punt at NatWest.

Not only do they appear to charge a "buy" rate far higher than most other commercial UK banks (and certainly higher than AIB or Bank of Ireland at their UK based branches) but then they have the audacity to add on at the end (and deduct from the sterling you receive which is less than the Irish you've given them), their commission.

Basically, the word to any Irish visitor to Britain this summer, is (if you have to change Irish over here) go to AIB/Bank of Ireland. There is usually a branch in most large English cities now. And avoid - unless you wish to be viciously "raped" financially - NatWest and indeed most of the other UK high street cleaners. - Yours, etc.,
