Sir, - The most revolting aspect of our filthy city of Dublin is the appearance of the millions of cuds of discarded chewing gum to be witnessed everywhere one dares to tread. It is carried on our feet into everywhere we go; hence shop and apartment floors are black-blodge speckled, as are pubs, churches, et al.
The gum-chewing habit is just one of the aspects of US civilisation imported into this country, and we now out-do the Americans in spewed-gum ejaculation. This nation has a Minister for the Environment ( believe it or not). We also have a Minister for Finance. Between them, would they either clamp a massive tax on this filthy habit or, better still, ban it. - Yours, etc.,
