Madam, – I came back from a short holiday to discover, to my horror, that the Fry Model Railway, currently housed at Malahide Castle, is under threat (Residential Property supplement, February 17th).

It would be a national disgrace (not the first one) if this unique railway system which, in good faith, was left to the State by the family of Cecil Fry (who handmade the system) were allowed to leave the country. It needs to be preserved in its entirety.

I am pleading, on behalf of my grandchildren, who love the railway, and future generations, to all who are interested in preserving our heritage to take action before it is too late. The Museum of Childhood, including the wonderful Tara’s Palace Doll House, is also being evicted but it, thankfully, is controlled by a trust and cannot be sold. Considering the vast sums of money that have been squandered in this country, it would take very little to save the Fry Railway. – Yours, etc,
