Sir, – I've had my fill of Eamonn McCann. Down the years I have tried to hang in with his left-wing views. Not easy, said I. His valiant support of the downtrodden has often been lost in his grandstanding oratory, but that's the price of passion, I told myself. His attempt to prevent the canonisation of Mother Teresa ("Mother Teresa not such a good role model", Opinion & Analysis, December 24th) was a step too far, and so terribly unseasonal. But I convinced myself that it's okay for an atheist to do that sort of thing, even at Christmas time for the rest of us. He now wants us all to support Arsenal ("Arsène Wenger can teach us all a lesson in decency", Opinion & Analysis, December 31st). "Catch yerself on", as they say in Derry. Come on you Spurs! Happy new year. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – With his love letter to Arsenal, has Eamonn Mc Cann finally gone too far? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Let me see if I can get Eamonn McCann’s train of thought right. Arsène Wenger good, Mother Theresa bad! – Yours, etc,
