Madam,- Murt Flynn (November 11th) and many other readers whinge about the state of our country. It's easy to do and, as Joe Higgins and Pat Rabbitte show us, people who whinge get a lot of easy publicity. Why achieve anything yourself, when you get credit just for criticising things?
People who don't like the state of the country should do something about it. Join a political party - any party - and work to clean up politics and have a say in how we are governed. Get involved in charities and community efforts to improve our welfare. Do something to protect our environment. Join your residents' association.
There are many choices like that, but they have one thing in common: you don't whinge - you get out of your chair and take action. Don't complain about the dirt on the floor if you don't have a brush in your hands. - Yours, etc.,
