Sir, – I was interested to read Helen Kehoe’s letter (September 12th) regarding the removal of a fine old post-box at Dún Laoghaire. For years Galway city could boast a very grand and ornate Victorian post-box at the top of High Street. Apparently damaged in an accident, the box vanished some years ago, no attempt having been made to repair it.
Surely every effort should have been made to restore this item, which had become something of a landmark? Are we to suppose that Galway has little interest in its heritage? – Yours, etc,
