Sir, - I am an Irish citizen who returned to work in Dublin from the UK because of the superior quality of life at home in Ireland. Today I see taxi-drivers striking and failing to accept the much needed deregulation of their market. At the same time, trains are not running between our cities and school pupils are at home because signalmen and teachers are taking industrial action.
When we add these current woes to the many other examples of unjustifiable industrial action taken by sectors of the economy and further inadequacies such as the overall transport infrastructure, the economic and social horizon does not look good. Exiles who returned home for a better life are now beginning to think they will not get it in Ireland and especially not in Dublin.
Once again, certain groups in Ireland have shown their ability to be the greatest barrier to the continued success and prosperity of the nation as a whole. - Yours, etc.
Kenny Jacobs, Stoneybatter, Dublin 7.
