BRENDAN TREACY,
Sir, - As you are aware, Amina Lawal is due, now that her appeal has been unsuccessful, to suffer the fate of being buried to her neck in sand and being stoned to death. I can think of no justification for such barbaric treatment being condoned by any government.
Surely we in the international community can do something to impress upon the government of Nigeria that stoning a woman for adultery is an unaceptable practice, and that the federal government should not only overturn the judicial decision, but ensure that such a punishment is never again meted out. - Yours, etc.,
BRENDAN TREACY, Drumree, Co Meath
