Sir, - In response to Niall O'Dowd's verbal bombing of "the Irish", may I say that it is possible to share the sorrow of the American people without falling in unquestioningly behind American policy, particularly when it reduces the complexities of world politics to a war on terrorism?
Perhaps a state which projects its power and influence worldwide could benefit from "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind" (the Declaration of Independence, 1776). - Yours, etc.,
Myles McSwiney, Cleaver Avenue, Belfast 9.
