Crime and the peace process

Madam, - You cannot describe black as white

Madam, - You cannot describe black as white. Mr Mitchel McLoughlin and his associates in Sinn Féin/IRA have dared to claim that the murder of Mrs McConville was not a crime. This is the posturing of moral perverts.

At present, the world is lamenting the slaughter of Jews by the Nazis. It is a grim reminder of what moral perverts can do. - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - Doesn't it seem passing strange that Sinn Féin should be so adamant when denying connections with events that it claims are not crimes? - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - I write in connection with the stream of letters in recent days referring to IRA criminality. I do not know who robbed the Northern Bank, but I do believe the Sinn Féin leadership when it says it is not aware of those that did.

What I find most frightening, though, is the media's continual efforts to demonise Sinn Féin. The party's leadership has made great efforts to bring the peace process to a successful conclusion.

It is not beyond the bounds of possibility that the British state and its "agents" were behind this robbery. After all, they have been proven in the past to have been involved in collusion, shoot to kill, arms importation and bombings on the island of Ireland.

I am not a member of any political party nor do I support any organisation that would endanger people or property. However, if one is to believe the current media spin you would imagine that all the loyalist terror organisations have simply gone away or have had some "road to Damascus" conversion.

The media in the Irish republic very conveniently seem to forget the alienation and injustices that the nationalist population of the failed six-county state have had to suffer since its illegal foundation by our colonial neighbours.

It is not a crime to want the occupation of Ireland to come to an end. In fact, it is the best possible solution for all concerned, Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter. - Is mise,
