Sir, – I would question the value of The Irish Times/MRBI poll which has found that a large majority is in favour of keeping the corporate tax rate at 12.5 per cent (News, October 7th). Maintaining the status quo is not a simple choice, but is bound up with our need for solidarity with other EU members, and our standing as a member of the OECD. The correct and only way to deal with the current move to higher rates is to negotiate so that we can get agreement on the most favourable outcome for our country, which is what the Government is doing.
I’m sure that if a simplistic survey were carried out in the morning to see if people were in favour of better weather all year round, a great majority would be in favour of that too. – Yours, etc,
SEAMUS McKENNA,
