Clontarf Cyclists

Sir, - Cyclists in Clontarf have had an adequate, though not perfect, cycle path from Bull Island almost to Connolly Station.

Today I discover that in putting a right-hand filter for cars going into the Alfie Byrne Road, the Council has eradicated the special lights for cyclists, forcing them to dash across the road when cars are giving way to the right; eradicated the special crossing for cyclists in the middle of the road forcing them to negotiate the island which is designed for pedestrians only; and got rid of the lip on the other side of the road forcing cyclists to use the pavement or lift their bicycles down onto the street.

Are we to conclude from this that we are now to drive into town or is this another example of disjointed policy making? - Yours, etc.,
