Sir, Fr. Hayes suggests that the Church learn to use all new media in order to have a dialogue with the users of those media. But ultimately, the object of the exercise would be for the Church to have another means to dispense its wisdom. The idea that it might actually learn something from the media (new or otherwise) is of course anathema.
For instance, up to two and a half years ago it might have become familiar with the issue of how to treat paedophiles who worked for it. At the very least it could not have pleaded complete ignorance of that subject, which is what it ended up doing. - Yours, etc,
