Sir, – I agree with Emma Mahoney about Vlad Yatsenko's donation to the Late Late Toy Show Appeal (Letters, December 2nd) that we should question how the State finances hospitals, etc.
In the meantime, philanthropy helps. In the US it is normal for the wealthy to give to organisations such as schools, colleges, etc. Unfortunately it is not so common here. We should not look a gift horse in the mouth as a means of helping somebody.
