Changed times

Sir, – When my late mother was in her eighties, she remarked one day that she found it very sad that, with the deaths of her siblings and friends, there was nobody left who addressed her by her first name.

Now, at a similar age, apart from family members, I would be hard put to find anyone who calls me anything other than my first name, even toddlers! Times have indeed changed. – Yours, etc,
