Madam, – As a parent who has an Angel buried in the little Angels’ Plot in Glasnevin Cemetery, I have been disgusted in the last few weeks by the behaviour of a small group of parents who are trying to prevent the modernisation of what has become, in the main, a very undignified and uncared for resting place (Home News, October 14th).
While I understand that grieving parents should be allowed place mementoes on their baby’s shared grave, it is not appropriate that those tokens of love and loss should be allowed rot and disintegrate into rubbish. Neither is it appropriate that one bereaved family should enclose a shared grave to the exclusion of other parents. Therefore I would implore the Angels Forever action group to consider the grief, confusion, and further bereavement they are causing the parents of those 40,000 other little souls. Like their babies, those parents have been silenced and excluded from comment by voluble protests. – Yours, etc,
