Sir, – Walking along Grafton Street in Dublin yesterday, I was disappointed to find that amplifiers can indeed affect how well you hear buskers. The pair of schoolgirls who were playing their violins without any aid could not be heard due to being drowned out by the sound coming from the amplifier belonging to the singing guitar player, who was close to the far end of the street.
To top that, he could not be heard properly either because as you approached him, any music he may have playing became so loud and unclear that it was more like noise.
Don’t they realise that sometimes less is more? – Yours, etc,
CATHERINE BOURKE,
