Sir, - I am very angry that Premier Dairies are finally scrapping glass milk bottles. It is practically the only truly environmentally careful form of packaging available in the country.
An unidentified spokesman for Premier was quoted in (Evening Herald, January 11th) as saying that "Premier have tried hard to promote glass bottles", citing two special editions, one from 1988 and one for the World Cup. In four years of using glass milk bottles I have not seen a single competition or other promotion advertised on them.
If the powers that be are serious about reducing waste they would be putting forward concrete measures to promote refill systems and if Premier were serious about their customers they would offer them real choice. - Yours, etc., Jennifer Wann,
