Betting at communion parties

Sir, – The local free newspaper carries a half-page full-colour advertisement for the Dublin greyhound stadium Shelbourne Park.

Below pictures of children presumably singing from hymnbooks and the heading “Communions and Confirmation”, a restaurant special meal is offered where the communion or confirmation child dines free and receives a free gift.

The deal includes “Tote betting and drinks service direct to table”.

Does anyone feel that this is an appropriate way for young children to celebrate this milestones in their lives?
