Sir, - I'm sick of this one-sided debate on the refugee/asylum-seekers problem. The liberal left seem to think they have the moral right to impose on us, the inhabitants of this island, their interpretation of what is right or wrong.
In a democracy everybody has an equal say in how the society should be run, regardless of whether they like or don't like refugees/asylum-seekers. I'm tired of the politically correct, liberal-left finger-pointing, using the word "racist" for anybody who disagrees with them. These people remind me of the hysterical, fanatical Catholics during the Inquisition who shouted "heretic" as they burned innocent people at the stake.
My experience of refugees/asylum-seekers is that they are perfectly healthy, well educated, clothed in designer wear, tote mobile phones and drive cars. Perfect model citizens, except they are funded by the hard-pressed Irish taxpayer.
So enough of this rubbish about political/religious/ethnic persecution; these people are economic migrants, pure and simple. I don't expect to be published as your paper does not take a open view on this issue. It prefers the liberal- left, politically correct view. - Yours, etc.,
Derek Gartland, Naas, Co Kildare.
