Sir, – It would be hard to find a better illustration of the irrelevance of Stormont to people’s lives in Northern Ireland than those offered by Seanín Graham’s and Freya McClements’s pieces in Thursday’s paper (News, April 28th).

Sinn Féin launched its election manifesto all of 10 days before election day while the Alliance Party launched its offering two days later.

They might as well raise white flags with the message, “We love to talk but London calls the shots”.

Of course this reality explains why Northern Ireland can function perfectly well during the many voluntary absences of the local politicians from Stormont.
