A chara, – Conor Brady writes, “no persuasive case has been set out” for the abolition of the Seanad (May 6th). I would like to suggest two reasons why it should be abolished: 1. The cost. Our country is bankrupt, after all. 2. There should be no place in a modern European democracy for an unelected house of parliament. And we call the Seanad the “Upper House”
My solution: Dáil Éireann should work a full five-day week and get rid of TDs’ long holidays. – Is mise,
