Sir, – I first attempted to “break into” the cunning mind of Mr Crozier more than one and a half years ago. Little by little I began to grasp some of the intricacies of his baffling clues. Last Thursday I completed the Crosaire (unaided) for the third time. That is three out of 468 crosswords attempted. I was elated, proclaiming myself to all and sundry as a genius. Alas it was short-lived as two days later you threw a bombshell, without warning you changed the goal posts and introduced a new “crossword setter”.

Am I now destined to be relegated back to first post? I’m too scared to even look at today’s. How could you, Sir? – Yours, etc,
