Sir, – Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy, the pride of Skibbereen, won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics (an Olympic gold medal being something Ireland wins at a rate of one per decade).
Since RTÉ has bizarrely chosen to omit them as nominees for this year’s Sportsperson of the Year awards, I think it appropriate that RTÉ offer a refund of the license fee to all residents of Skibbereen.
Although the decision has caused temperatures to rise in Skibb, the €160 would certainly be of more practical use in offsetting energy bills this winter. – Yours, etc,
