Madam, – I must take issue with departing US ambassador Thomas Foley’s piece in yesterday’s paper (January 19th).

Madam, – I must take issue with departing US ambassador Thomas Foley’s piece in yesterday’s paper (January 19th).

His criticism of Irish pepper amounted to an unwarranted insult intended to cause the greatest possible injury to the Irish People.

After all, the Irish are known the world over for their special fondness for pepper; a commodity we take great pride in.

I see no alternative but to call for a declaration of war. – Yours, etc,
