Sir, – The Bank Holidays Act of 1871 formally recognised certain days as bank holidays, and the number and date of these have been altered subsequently. Although they are not statutory public holidays, bank holidays are generally observed by business and public organisations. What I would like to propose is that the “government” introduce one more bank holiday in the year. One that would have very relevant meaning to our current situation, and remind our children, and indeed our grandchildren, of that faithless day when Ireland surrendered her sovereignty to the European bankers. Lest we, or future generations , forget, let us make September 13th a bankers’ holiday. – Yours, etc,
