A chara, – It's been a bad week for Micheál Martin. First, his Coalition partners in Fine Gael engaged in a stunt with the Zappone appointment and neglect to tell him. Not only that but Mr Martin apparently meekly acquiesced to the appointment. Then a report by the Covid-19 Law and Human Rights Observatory at Trinity College Dublin confirms what the dogs in the street have known for some time now – that Nphet have been the de-facto decision-makers in the country for the past year (News, August 4th).
With the countdown ticking until his agreed departure from office, Micheál Martin is proving to be the very definition of a lame-duck Taoiseach. – Is mise,
