BARRY REDMOND,
Madam, - I heartily agree with Peggy Keegan (December 10th). To see President McAleese leading 3,000 enthusiastic young people in singing "Happy Birthday to Us" was an experience not to be missed, and one that I was astounded to find was not reported.
In the same issue of as Ms Keegan's letter an article by Kathryn Holmquist describes some of the serious problems facing our young people. Scouting provides an adventurous and positive alternative for 30,000 of them in this country, but it seems that only bad news gets reported.
In a week or so, a contingent of over 100 scouts will leave Ireland for Thailand and Australia to attend a World Jamboree with 30,000 scouts from all over the world. More good news, but will it be reported? - Yours, etc.,
BARRY REDMOND, (Parent and Scout Leader), Rathdown Villas,
