The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – Last summer I fulfilled a retirement dream and cycled up the Wild Atlantic Way. While having lunch in Westport one day, I overheard two English couples talking, giving each other tips and suggestions as to where they should go and what to see.

One couple said: “Don’t go to Achill. It’s full.”

They had spent an hour-and-a-half that morning looking for a place to park there, and failed. So they drove down to Westport.

Incidentally, earlier that morning while cycling past Kylemore Abbey I encountered a convoy of 12 Italian camper vans heading west.

I have no idea where they were going or how they would park when they got there. – Yours, etc,

JOHN DOYLE
