You, me and my lovely SUV

Sir, – I am writing to declare my undying and unconditional love for my SUV. I am unapologetic about the luxurious space, elevated panoramic views, and increased safety of what is a fantastic vehicle.

I sit, full of smug self-satisfaction in my roomy air-conditioned cabin and due to its advanced driver aids and safety features I am afforded the time to muse on my last use of public transport – that faint smell of urine and sweat, the buffoon shouting down the phone and the morons watching Instagram reels with the sound up, the vaping, the heat on even though it was about 20 degrees.

People buy SUVs because they are awesome, and if new, some of the lowest emission vehicles ever manufactured.

Government moves to tax by weight are simply about generating revenue from whatever is popular, if everyone moved to bicycles then that is where the tax would be applied.
