Sir, - In my late 80s now, I have been dabbling with computers since 1995. I do not consider myself to be particularly proficient but I certainly consider them essential in my life. I live alone and my sight is failing but with my iPad and my iPhone, I am never alone. My iPad provides me with my newspaper and my radio. I can dictate my emails, read my Kindle, or listen to my audiobooks.
The more my eyesight deteriorates the more useful it becomes. I can increase print size and contrast. I can do my grocery shopping for delivery. All this may take me some time but then nowadays I have plenty of that!
Before I open my eyes in the morning, I ask my smart speaker what the weather is doing and then I go back in my memory to my childhood and what my mother would think if she could see me now! I urge people to become acquainted with technology and don’t leave it to your family to do things for you. You will feel the better for it. - Yours, etc,
ITA MCCORMACK,
