Sir, – The heading of your front-page article (“Housing targets at risk due to water supply gaps”, News, March 28th) might suggest that just a bit more action is needed by Uisce Éireann to help achieve housing targets. However, the references by Jerry Grant, chair of Uisce Éireann, to complacency and indifference regarding water and drainage infrastructure should leave us in no doubt regarding the absolute need for urgent action.
Mr Grant references the vulnerability of the single pipeline from Ballymore Eustace to the city. While a burst on this pipeline could knock out supply for half a million people for over a week, there are sadly several more vital pieces of infrastructure which could have even more catastrophic impacts if they failed.
