Sir, – In “Ireland is not immune to the wave of foreign state espionage sweeping Europe” (Opinion, January 9th), you repeat a report that a member of the previous Oireachtas may have been working for Russian intelligence and that this person is called Cobalt.
I cannot recall anyone of that name standing in the recent Dáil elections but, now that the Seanad elections are under way, perhaps Cobalt is seeking election to the Upper House.
If, as a consequence of side-effects of the recent cold spell, I am minded to give Cobalt a consideration in voting for that august institution, perhaps some current or aspiring public representative would be kind enough to let me know (in a timely fashion) who I should vote for if I want to vote for Cobalt. – Yours, etc,
