Sir, – I refer to the article by Mark Weiss (“Israel considers outsourcing humanitarian effort in Gaza to international security firms amid global criticism”, October 24th).
Getting security companies to protect aid is not the answer to the crisis in Gaza. Stopping the war through a ceasefire is.
While this may seem helpful short term, it ignores the fact that states are required under international law to prevent the harm that gives rise to humanitarian need. Israel has the power to do this.
This proposal demonstrates an attempt by Israel to appease public opinion while continuing with a campaign of total destruction in Gaza.
