A chara, – The Taoiseach has defended the reopening of the Irish embassy in Iran (News, October 13th).
Have we discussed that country’s fundamental human rights issues? Our President has congratulated the newly elected Iranian president, and Ireland appears content to reopen diplomatic ties, and all the while the country in question treats women with respect, so long as they dress appropriately in public, obey the medieval rules applying to them as female, and do not display any opposition to any of the above. And, meantime, we’ve managed to bring diplomatic ties with Israel to an all-time low.
