Sir, – The use of the word “rename” in your article “Trinity to rename library after Boland” (News, October 9th) would no doubt give Bishop Berkeley pause for thought.
Berkeley’s metaphysical puzzle is summarised as “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” Your article points out that the library was “denamed” in 2023. If a library has been denamed and therefore doesn’t have a name, can it be renamed? – Yours, etc,
