Sir, – The hyperbole that accompanies the travails of golfer Rory McIlroy can be amusing. “The vanquished heartbreak doesn’t get any easier”, according to Philip Reid’s report (Sport, September 23rd). We also learn that the golfer “had the consolation, for what it is worth, of adding €697,260 to his earnings”, to add to the heartbreak of the previous week of second place in the Irish Open and the added burden of winning €596,000 to add to his piggy bank to help assuage his anguish.
