Sir, – Anticipating possible accusations of making an ad hominem attack on Simon Harris, I will confine myself to two points. The Taoiseach is “horrified” at what is happening in Gaza, but has an aversion to taking action on the Occupied Territories Bill for fear being labelled a “prisoner of ideology” (Politics, August 24th).
The refusal to nominate an Irish woman along with an Irish man for the position of European Commissioner is insulting to half the Irish population and to the many individuals who have demonstrably proven themselves in their careers and professions. Mr Harris’s excuse? “It’s not a legal requirement”.
No marks out of 10 for action so far. – Yours, etc,
GERALDINE BIRD,
