Sir, – Leading up to the budget for 2025, we hear many proposals, questions and suggestions in relation to fairness and equality.
One area which I feel deserves to be highlighted is the Drugs Payment Scheme
Under the present scheme no family has to pay more than €80 per month for prescribed drugs. This is a very welcome and valuable aid to help with high medical expenses.
However, when it comes to a single person, it means they too do not pay more than €80 per month for prescribed drugs.

In other words, a family with a total income of €400,000 per annum pays the same amount per month for prescribed drugs as a single person whose income is just enough to disqualify them from holding a medical card.
It seems to me that this is something to consider for adjustment in the upcoming budget. – Yours, etc,
MARY DALY,
