Sir, – Despite the digitisation of almost everything in sport from timers to VAR, there is one tiny piece of kit that has not changed or been replaced since its invention: the humble safety pin.
Its continued use to attach the identification details to the singlets of our wonderful Olympic athletes in Paris is testament to its durability as the invention of US inventor Walter Hunt (1796-1859). – Yours, etc,
