Sir, – John McManus recently discussed why bin companies are considering increasing the cost of green bin collections (“Why the deposit return scheme may end up increasing your bin charges”, Opinion & Analysis, July 3rd).
This is due to the success of the new Re-Turn deposit scheme, which has meant a reduction in the amount of plastic bottles and cans they collect, and an apparent drop in their profits.
Over the past few years, there has been a huge rise in the amount of wasteful packaging being recycled by consumers, but I don’t recall being offered any price reductions as the profits of the bin companies increased. – Yours, etc,
PAUL WALDRON,
