Sir, – In response to the extensive negative coverage of the first past the post system received in the aftermath of the UK election, should we not consider the alternative proportional representation (PR) operated here before assessing how rocky the road ahead may be?
Our imminent general election held under PR will no doubt return a sizeable block of 30 to 40 TDs outside of the main parties with little or no interest in national government and who no doubt will hold the balance of power.
The UK system, despite its imperfections, has produced a rock-solid government from day one, which, after all, is what general elections are all about. – Yours, etc,
