Sir, – Kenneth Harper (Letters, June 12th) rightly points out that there are significantly more MEPs per head of population in Malta than in Ireland. This is because the smaller the population of a country the greater the allocation of MEPs per head of population. For example, Ireland has over twice the number of MEPs per capita as Germany. Another little-heralded protection of the interests of smaller countries in the democratic processes of the EU. – Yours, etc,
