Sir, – The date for the next round of elections in Ireland is June 7th in the European and local contests.
Already, the lampposts along Drumcondra Road and Dorset Street in Dublin are festooned with political posters and cable ties. These include all those espousing the green agenda, which these days must be the majority of parties.
Surely it’s not beyond all political parties to support a more environmentally friendly way to bring prospective candidates to the attention of the public.
For example, by erecting one large billboard to accommodate one poster per candidate in a central location of each town, village, and suburb.
Women keep changing their surnames to match their husband’s. Why are we normalising this symbolic control?
As Caoimhín Kelleher is primed for a £40m transfer, which other Irish players could move?
Dublin traffic changes: Pearse Street ‘noticeably quieter’ since left-turn ban
Oliver Sears: Seeing Israel use hunger as a weapon of war is monstrous to me as someone with a Holocaust legacy
Candidates can promote their agendas on social media.
The climate change clock goes tick-tock! – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Surely a website with all the candidates and a little bit of information about them would be a very simple solution? This could be done through county council websites. Do people really vote by seeing a “mugshot on a pole”? Time for candidates to come up with a greener solution. – Yours, etc,
