A seat on public transport

The right thing to do

Letters to the Editor. Illustration: Paul Scott

Sir, – Unlike your letter writer (April 27th), if I am offered a seat on public transport, I accept gratefully. Apart from my gratitude, I feel that a refusal can be disconcerting to a young person and could deter them from making such an offer in future. An acceptance makes both parties feel good about each other and is an assurance that kindness still exists, despite the worry that it may be disappearing from public life. – Yours, etc,

MARGARET BUTLER,

Booterstown,

Co Dublin.
