Sir, – The architectural students at Technological University Dublin are to be commended for drawing up masterplans to accommodate up to 6,000 students on campus. But it looks as if they will have to do the building work as well.
A plan for just over 2,000 on-campus beds was approved by An Bord Pleanála 12 years ago under a fast-tracking scheme. To date, not one unit has been built. A TU Dublin spokeswoman is reported as saying that the date for completion is uncertain. I suspect this is in large part because the date for commencement is not known.
Imagine how long this might take if we were in the middle of an accommodation crisis for third-level students. – Yours, etc,
PAT O’BRIEN,
