Sir, – Now that the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has blocked the DAA, which manages Dublin Airport, from purchasing the QuickPark car park facility in Santry, we can look forward to paying the cost of a mini-holiday for the privilege of parking at Dublin Airport this summer (“Holidaymakers face another summer of car parking shortages as regulators block Dublin Airport bid”, Business, March 21st). An Irish solution to an Irish problem.
Why can’t the powers that be just put a cap on the car parking rates at the airport? After all, the DAA is a semi-State body, ultimately owned by the citizens of this country. None of this would be difficult to implement. Maybe deep down, this is all a ploy to get people to holiday in Ireland. – Yours, etc,
