A chara, – Justine McCarthy’s suggestion that women, and it appears only women, can save the world is essentially a jaded reworking of “boys shall wear blue and girls shall wear pink” (“It is no longer academic to ask: can women save the world?”, Opinion & Analysis, February 23rd). To support her argument, she cherry-picks “bad” males such as Trump and Putin as compared to equally carefully selected “good” females such as Yulia Navalnaya.
The reality is that there is far more variation within the genders than between them. Ascribing general and fixed personality or behavioural characteristics to either males or females is an exercise in the absurd. In particular where the intent is clearly to classify one group as wicked and the other as virtuous. One is, apparently, destroying the world while the other can supposedly “save” it. – Is mise,
