Sir, – With the endless headlines and media frenzy about RTÉ, political players are overlooking the malign consequences of impugning and belittling the work of RTÉ's programme makers.
Their freedom to speak the truth is a public good, essential for our democracy. It is undermined by a vicious, rudderless social media, and by Government delays in ensuring a free and healthy future for the station. The “wait and see”' mentality so beloved of our public service simply fuels the awful right-wing dogmas that rise like a fog about our self-satisfied citizenry. – Yours, etc,
